Sacred Lanterns

Every Memorial Day, people in Honolulu Hawaii release thousands of floating lanterns to honor their loved ones. In 2014, about 40,000 people met at Ala Moana Beach to release the lanterns.

To take this photo, I had to wade into the water with my camera. By the time I emerged from the mass of people and reached the lanterns, only my arms and head remained above the water.
